Project based learning is a type of teaching method where students do projects by coming up with their own questions they have and then creating a way to answer the question. Students gain new skills and knowledge through this process because they have more free range of finding new ways to do certain tasks. Typically the findings of the project will be published for others in the community outside of just those at the school.

This video talks about why PBL is so effective and how it helps to transform how students learning in the classroom.

I think project based learning is a great way for students to grasp information as opposed to just being taught to remember facts. A way I would try and incorporate this way of teaching into my own classroom would be structuring lessons and the teaching of core curriculum ideas around projects rather than just teaching facts. I think this would take more time as a teacher to put together a lesson plan but would definitely be possible and so helpful and much more interesting for students.

I think some of the struggles of incorporating PBL into school lessons is the fact that teachers feel like they have to cram in information to students because of standardized testing and the short amount of time in the classrooms to teach.
